The right way to learn the “Ontario Building Code”
The Building Code Act, 1992 is the legislative framework governing the construction, renovation, and change-of-use of a building. The Ontario Building Code is a regulation under the Act that establishes detailed technical and administrative requirements as well as minimum standards for building construction. The purposes of the Ontario Building Code include; public health and safety, fire protection, resource conservation, environmental integrity, and accessibility although its primary purpose is the promotion of public safety through the application of appropriate uniform building standards. “The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing” is responsible for the development of, and the amendments to the Building Code Act and The Ontario Building Code.
The Ministry has categorized code courses and exams into over 14 different categories. i.e. Part 9 – Building envelope, Part 3 – Classification, Part 3 – Health & Safety, etc.
In order to learn all about Part 9, a student must go through over 5 courses that consume over 25 business days with an average cost of $5500.
Moreover, all OBC training centers miss a big piece of the puzzle, REALISTIC ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATIONS!
None of them teaches students tips and tricks on how to use the code in an actual architectural office on a real architectural project!
Or how those categories connected together.
In order to design a project (part 3 or part 9), it is critical to learn all about it in relation to OBC – from the footing all the way up to the chimney. And how to tackle renovations/alterations code wise.
SIMPLY CODE courses are categorized into 2 logical workshops; OBC9 and OBC3.
